DAVIDSON, N.C. -- Davidson swimming's Riley League has been named to the COSIDA Academic All-District 3 At Large squad, announced Friday morning by the organization.
League, who just wrapped up serving as a captain during his junior season with the Wildcats, carries a near perfect GPA as a double major in Economics and Philosophy. He boasts the top GPA in the entire conference, and finished in the finals in two of his three individual events at the 2017 A-10 Championships. The Rock Hill, S.C., native the second-best mark in school history in the 200 fly, third-best in the 200 IM, and fourth-best in the 100 breast. He serves as a research assistant in the Davidson College Economics Department, and is a research fellow at the Vann Center for Ethics.
A Bryan Scholar and two-time Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team selection, League is one of 23 swimmers named to the eight-region list, but one of four in the swimming-heavy District 3. The at large category includes student athletes from ice hockey, tennis, golf, lacrosse, fencing, water polo, rifle, men's volleyball, wrestling, and of course, swimming and diving. District 3 consists of colleges and universities from North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. League is one of just three students from the A-10 to be named, and the only swimmer.
Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third- team All-America® honorees will be selected later this month.
