Wildcat Comments
Head Coach Matt Spear, 15th Season
"Each player had three primary improvement aims that were discussed and activated regularly with the coaches. The eight juniors have ramped towards becoming senior leaders through group sessions with the coaching staff to share growth ideas for culture, communication, and more. And we benefited immensely from the athletic department's consultancy with leadership developer Jeff Moore. Each player processed Jeff's "striver quotient" assessment, Jeff met with the team three times, he watched a couple practices and he consistently checked in with me and the team's progress."
"The coaches agree with the team's chosen leaders – especially since Cort and Matt were ranked first and second by their teammates in "strivership" traits. The guys rated each other on qualities such as fiercely pushing oneself on a daily basis, challenging teammates, speaking boldly, and pushing past the comfort zone. The team has always been very close, but there is an elevated ambition and excellence mindset in this group where everyone is expected to push individually, stay constructive and put the team first.
"Freshmen Charlie Caswell, John Dale and Louis Evans made big strides forward in match play and Coleman Richards and Ned Morrissett set a standard for training ethic."
Matt Reinikka, Co-Captain
Junior | Defender | Mill Creek, Washington
"I thought our team cohesion progressed significantly this spring. In games, we reacted well to adversity and trusted in our own style of play when things went awry. This resilience was a product of the hard work that we put in on the practice field, in the weight room, and in the meeting room. This spring gives me lots of confidence and excitement about this team and what we can achieve in my senior campaign."
Cort Coxhead, Co-Captain
Junior | Defender | Norcross, Georgia
"I think the confidence of our team has significantly grown through the spring. The hard work by individuals in practice has pushed other teammates to match that same level of intensity, and I believe the success this spring is a product of that hard work and our trust in each other. These aspects give me great encouragement as we head into my senior season as we continue to unlock our potential individually and as a team."
