Another A-10 Rookie of the Week Honor for Abele

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Another perfect week leads to another Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week award for Davidson's Alexandra Abele in women's tennis as the league office announced its weekly award winners today for matches played from Feb. 27-March 6.
The freshman grabbed her fourth weekly rookie of the week honor and her second straight. Overall, it was Davidson's sixth as a team this season.
Abele continued her impressive first year by keeping her singles and doubles win streaks alive in a 6-1 neutral site win against UNC Wilmington, March 5. The Cincinnati, Ohio native teamed with Ava Todd at No. 3 doubles and remained perfect on the year by taking a 7-4 tie-breaker win to help Davidson capture the doubles point. The pair ran their record to 9-0 on the season.
Abele then led the way in singles, recording her sixth consecutive win at No. 4 with a 6-2, 6-1 victory. She pushed her record to a team-best 9-1 on the season and has the longest winning streak on the team this year.
Davidson returns home this weekend for an 11 a.m. Atlantic 10 match against Saint Joseph's Sunday, March 12.
