
Women's T&F Post Eight Personal Bests Friday

The Davidson women's track and field team posted eight personal best's on the opening day of the Raleigh Relays Friday at Paul Derr Track.
The Wildcats got things going off the opening gun in the 5,000-meter run. Davidson sophomore Caroline Yarbrough led a trio of 'Cats, stopping the clock in 17:23.91, but it was freshman Susannah Cate (17:26.35) and senior Hayden Bates (17:41.23) with a pair of personal bests as Jen Straub's squad competed well against a competitive field.
Keeping the record train going, sophomore's Tori Long and Claire Nieusma took the lap around the track in PR-fashion. Long took second in her heat with a time if 58.23 seconds, while Nieusma won the 10th section in 58.89 seconds.
Sarah Sears continued her stellar junior season, besting her best 1,500-meter result by over five seconds, 4:32.35. Classmate Sierra Ponthier stopped the clock in 4:39.94.
The 'Cats kept things rolling under the lights with new PR's in the 10,000-meter run from junior Laurel Sheffield and senior Caroline Turner. For Sheffield it was her first 10k, the Lexington, Va., native completed the 25 laps in 36:18.12. Turner snapped her previous best by 45 seconds, stopping the clock in 37:14.14.
At the Winthrop ADIDAS Invitational, junior Stephanie Hautamaa was the top collegiate pole-vaulter, clearing 3.60-meters (11'9.75"), six-inches higher than best mark in 2015.
The 'Cats continue at both the Raleigh Relays and the Winthrop Invite Saturday, Mar. 25.
