NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Davidson swimming and diving placed a league-high five members on the Atlantic 10 All-Academic teams, announced by the league Thursday.
Junior Riley League repeats his selection from a year ago, and is joined this season by classmate Clay Resweber, a first-time member. On the women's side, senior standout Elise Lankiewicz was named for a third consecutive year, joined this year by classmate Kassie Shannon and junior Sarah Coats, both making their first appearance on the team.
League boasts the top GPA in the entire conference, double majoring in economics and philosophy. He finished in the finals in two of his three individual events at the 2017 A-10 Championships, and has the second-best mark in school history in the 200 fly, third-best in the 200 IM, and fourth-best in the 100 breast. He serves as a research assistant in the Davidson College Economics Department, and is a research fellow at the Vann Center for Ethics.
Resweber narrowly missed the podium in both the 500 free and 200 free events, but was also a finalist in the 1650 free and tied a new school record in the men's 400 free relay at last month's Championships. He ranks second in program history in the 500 free, 1000 free, and 1650 free, and third all-time in the 200 free. Resweber is a chemistry major.
Lankiewicz, who became the third swimmer from Davidson to ever qualify for the NCAA Championships earlier this week, went a perfect 7-for-7 at the A-10 Championships, tallying three individual golds. She broke three school and three league records, and was deservedly named the Most Outstanding Performer for the third consecutive year. She is an 11-time A-10 Performer of the Week and holds 11 total school records at Davidson and five in the league.
Coats, who served as a team captain this past season as a junior, boasts the second-highest GPA on the All-Academic Team and has the fourth-best mark in school history in the 100 breast. She is also the sixth-best in the 200 breast. Coats is a member of the servant team of the Reformed University Fellowship at Davidson, and serves as a student research fellow. Coats is studying chemistry on the Pre-Med track.
Shannon took gold in three relays at the A-10s, and was narrowly edged out of a medal in the 50 free, finishing in fourth. She also finished eighth overall in the 100 free, and set a new school record in the winning 200 free relay. Shannon is a member of the league record-holding 400 free relay, and is a member of three school record-holding relays. She ranks in the Top 10 at Davidson in three different events and is a member of the Alpha Epsilon Delta Pre-Med honors society. Shannon will graduate this spring with a degree in Biology.
Duquesne also placed three females on the squad, while George Washington tied them with two men and one woman.
Members of the team must be a major contributor to their program and have achieved a 3.0 grade point average or higher. The nominees are voted on by the Sports Information Directors of each team in the conference.
