
'Cats Open 49er Classic With Several Personal Bests

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Davidson women's track and field team opened the outdoor slate with the first day of the Charlotte 49er Classic Friday, setting multiple personal records along the way.
Wildcat junior Sarah Sears was the first collegian to cross the line in the 5,000-meter with a time of 16:57. Junior Laurel Sheffield and senior Hayden Bates also set new personal records with times of 17:28.17 and 17:44.36, respectively.
Davidson was able to go 1-2 in their heat of 1,500-meter run with Sierra Ponthier (4:39.19) and Caroline Yarbrough (4:40.12). Sophia Mills won the third heat, snapping the tape in 4:46.38.
The Wildcats finish up day two of the 49er Classic Saturday.
