3rd Straight Week Abele Named A-10 Weekly Rookie Performer

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — For the third consecutive week, Davidson women's tennis freshman Alexandra Abele was honored with the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week award, as announced by the league off today for matches played from March 6-12.
It was the first-year's fifth weekly rookie of the week honor this year and gave the Wildcats their seventh award overall.
Abele registered yet another unbeaten week by going a combined 4-0 in singles and doubles matches vs. Stetson and Saint Joseph's last week.
The native of Cincinnati, Ohio, had another stellar week, pushing her singles win streak to eight in a row and remaining unbeaten in doubles play with Ava Todd. The freshman registered singles wins of 7-6, 6-3 and 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4 to run her record to a team-best 11-1.
Abele helped the Wildcats win both doubles points by securing 6-3 and 6-2 decisions at No. 3 with Todd and moving them to 11-0 on the year. It is the most consecutive wins since Anna Catharine Feaster and Ally Sexton ran off 12 in a row last season.
Davidson (10-2, 3-0 A-10) plays a neutral site match next against UMass in Charleston, S.C., this coming Friday, March 17.
