RICHMOND, Va.  —  Davidson dropped just its third match of the season when it finished its weekend with a 6-1 setback to host VCU Sunday in Atlantic 10 men's tennis action.

The Wildcats fell for the first time in league play, 3-1, and saw their overall record go to 9-3.

Axel Fries, who was the lone Wildcat to score a team point on the day, kept his win streak alive at nine with a 6-3, 6-3 singles win to improve to 10-1 on the season. Eight of those wins have come at No. 5 singles.

Having their two-match win streaks halted were David Hager (No. 2: 6-2, 6-3), Artem Khrapko (No. 3: 7-6, 6-1), J.B. Gough (No. 4: 6-, 6-0) and Thomas Mason (No. 6: 6-3, 4-6, 10-4).

Davidson continues its four-match road trip by heading to Florida to face UCF and Bethune Cookman, March 5-6.
