Davidson Host Siena in Lacrosse Home Opener Tuesday

DAVIDSON, N.C. — Davidson begins its home women's lacrosse schedule by welcoming Siena Tuesday night under the lights inside Richardson Stadium.
The Opening Draw Control...
Davidson (0-1, 0-0 A-10) plays its home opener Tuesday night against Siena at 6:30 p.m. at Richardson Stadium. The Wildcats will also host William & Mary Sunday as part of their two-game homestand.
The All-Time Series/Last Meeting...
Davidson won the lone meeting back in 2012 at home. The game went down to the wire, a 14-13 victory by the Wildcats. With time running down, Ann Fucigna drove into the half circle from the left side and fired in the game-winning goal with 29 ticks left as Davidson overcame a three-goal deficit.

Record Watch...
Goalie Rose Woolson is slowing climbing into the Wildcats' record books. She is just outside the top-eight in saves, sitting at 127 and needing 12 more to move to into eighth. She is also close to getting into the top-eight in minutes and her current goals against average is tops all-time (8.95).
Senior Annie Brockett has an outside shot of getting in the top-10 in goals, sitting at 54. Erin Doherty and Emily Rademacher are tied for 10th place with 89 goals for their careers.
Weekly Awards...
Goalkeeper Rose Woolson earned Davidson's only weekly lacrosse award last year from the Atlantic 10 by being named the league's defensive player of the week, March 14.
Last Time Out...
DAVIDSON — Davidson got its 2017 season underway on the road, Feb. 11, but saw host Virginia Tech use a 6-0 run to break up a one-goal game and eventually took a 13-7 decision.
The Wildcats were within 4-3 after freshman Genna Portner scored her first collegiate goal off a pass from Sophia Sgroi with 3:47 on the clock in the first half.
Portner went on to score one more time for a two-goal game and senior Annie Brockett matched her with a couple scores as well.
Davidson closed the game out strong with three straight scores in the final 5:15, with Brockett, Portner and Pettiglio recording goals.
In goal, Rose Woolson, who was an Atlantic 10 All-Second Team pick a year ago, drew the start and finished with eight saves to go with three groundballs and a caused turnover. The Wildcats as a team had 11 caused turnovers, with Pettiglio and Claudia Becker forcing two each.
Last Time Out..
Siena — The Siena Women's Lacrosse dropped their season opener to the two-time Big South Conference Champions Winthrop 11-10 last Sunday. Lauren Anglim recorded a hat-trick for the Saints (0-1) behind her three goals. Michelle Schwartz led the Saints with five points as she dished out three assists and tallied two goals.
The Saints (0-1) jumped out to an early 4-0 lead, but the Eagles rallied and tied the game at 5-5 heading into halftime.
The Eagles opened up the second half with a goal, but the Saints took the next four goals for a 9-6 lead. Siena led 10-8 with just under 5:30 to play, before Winthrop tied the contest at 10-10 with 1:54 left in the game and then scored the game-winning goal with 1:07 left for the 11-10 victory.
