
Women's DMR Set School Record on Day One of A-10 Indoor Champs

FAIRFAX, Va. – The Davidson distance medley relay team set a new school record and finished third overall to cap off day one of the 2017 Atlantic 10 Championship Saturday at George Mason Field House.
The team of Tori Long, Sierra Ponthier, Hannah Rieden and Sarah Sears stopped the clock in 11:46.52, over five seconds faster than the previous mark and took third in the league. Rieden and Sears were both apart of the former program record setting squad that finished third in 2015 A-10 Championship (11:51.94).
Rieden began her day by taking second in her heat of the 800-meter run and fifth overall to advance to Sunday's final. The Austin, Texas, native stopped the clocked in 2:15.50.
Sophomore Caroline Yarbough placed fifth overall in a competitive 5,000-meter race. Yarbrough finished in 17:19.47, the second fastest indoor 5k time of her young career.
Davidson junior Stephanie Hautamaa took sixth overall in the pole vault. The Castle Rock, Colo., native cleared 3.35 meters to earn three points for her team.
Despite missing the finals, freshman Katie Macturk reset the program's 1k record. Macturk became the first Wildcat to break 3:00 as the Wilmington, Del., native stopped the clock at 2:59.86 and finished 11th overall in the preliminary heats. Ponthier held the previous mark (3:00.05) set at the 2015 A-10 Championship.
Davidson sits in ninth after the opening day of competition with 13 total points.
The Wildcats finish up A-10 Indoor Championship action Sunday beginning at 10:30 a.m. with the women's triple jump from George Mason Field House.
