GENEVA, Ohio – On the final day of the Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Championships, Davidson left Ohio with three new medals, tied a school record, and another Performer of the Year award.
The women finished fifth overall (390) and the men came in eighth (275) as competition wrapped up from the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
Senior Elise Lankiewicz went for the three-peat, earning her third consecutive A-10 Most Outstanding Performer title. The veteran finished her final campaign with a flourish, winning the 100 freestyle with an NCAA B Standard time of 49.11. The mark set a new league and meet record and she now replaces herself for second on the Davidson All-Time Performances list. After posting an unblemished Championships record, Lankiewicz now boasts over 72 first-place finishes over the span of her four seasons.
Lankiewicz is now tied for the most Most Outstanding Performer awards in league history, tying Richmond's Maja Kobelja, who won for three years prior to Elise's arrival in A-10 competition.
She topped the podium for a second time on the day, swimming anchor on the 400 freestyle relay (and joined by classmate Kassie Shannon, sophomore Maggie Farrell, and fellow senior Erica Clancy) that sprinted to a 3:21.68 mark.
The 'Cats other medal came from senior Katy Williams, who registered a 2:13.40 (NCAA B Standard) performance in the 200 breast, taking home the silver.
Juniors Leah Hubert and Riley League were each narrowly edged out of receiving medals; Hubert posted the sixth-best mark in school history in the 1,650 free (17:11.09), and League, after posting the top time in the prelims of the men's 200 fly (1:48.48), also finished in fourth (1:48.88). League's preliminary performance replaces himself for second best all time.
The quartet of juniors Clay Resweber, Taylor Willenbring, and Cole Riggan, and sophomore Jake Perron achieved a remarkable feat, tying the school record in the men's 400 free relay. They now join alums Luke Burton, Cameron Bard, Colin MacKay, and Brandon Kegley, who set their mark at the A-10s in 2015.
Other Top-Eight finishes include freshman Crossan Cooper on the men's side, who took seventh overall in the 1650 free (15:46.71) and eighth in the 200 breast (2:04.44). While his 1650 race ranks third all time, Cooper's prelims time in the breast (2:02.77) puts him fourth in program history.
Resweber touched in right behind Cooper in the 1650 (15:48.94), while Willenbring took eighth in the men's 100 free (45.23). Willenbring's prelim clip of 44.71 moved him into second all-time.
Shannon wrapped up her Davidson career by taking eighth in the 100 free (51.15).
