Brewster Claims 2nd Straight Indoor 5k Crown on Opening Day of A-10 Champs

FAIRFAX, Va. – Will Brewster and Walker Mogen highlighted day one of the 2017 Atlantic 10 Indoor Track and Field Championship Saturday at George Mason Field House.

The Davidson senior duo went 1-2 in the 5,000-meter run to claim the top of the podium. Brewster won his second consecutive indoor 5k title, crossing the line in 14:48.87, while Mogen stopped the clock at 14:51.51.08.

The Wildcats sit in third overall after the opening day of competition with 20.5 points.

Junior Jacob Hostetler reset his school record in the 200-meter dash for the third time in the third preliminary heat of the day. Hostetler crossed the line in 22.30 seconds, the fifth fastest time of the day, and advances to Sunday's finals.

The 'Cats will have both their horses in the 400-meter final as Hostetler and freshman George Williams each won their heat and earned a spot in Sunday's championship race. Hostetler enters with the fifth fastest prelim time (49.52 seconds). Williams, the school record holder, notched the seventh quickest prelim, while winning the third heat (49.64). Fellow rookie Garrett Nickelson earned a spot in Sunday's 500-meter final, registering the fourth fastest prelim time while winning the fourth heat (1:05.46).

Through four events of the heptathlon, Jordan Marshall and James Davis enter day two in 9th and 10th place, respectively. Marshall has earned 2,226 points combined in the 60-meter dash, long jump, shot put and high jump. Davis has 2,175 points in his first A-10 Championship. Davis also competed in the open pole vault and placed seventh overall. The Clarkesville, Ga., native and reigning A-10 Rookie of the Week cleared 4.35 meters (14'3.25").

The Wildcats finish up A-10 Indoor Championship action Sunday back at George Mason Field House beginning at 9 a.m.
