GENEVA, Ohio – Another three program bests accompanied three gold medals for the Davidson swimming and diving teams at the Atlantic 10 Championships Friday in Geneva, Ohio, at the SPIRE Institute.
In her second individual event of the Championships, senior Elise Lankiewicz kept with the trend, breaking a new league, meet, facility, and school record in a gold-medal performance in the 200 freestyle. Her time of 1:45.14 was an NCAA B Standard time and over three seconds ahead of the next-best finisher. She bettered her own school record in the event, which she set at last year's A10s.
She was joined on the podium by classmate Katy Williams, who collected her own gold medal and reigned superior in the 100 breast with a 1:01.63 (NCAA B Standard).
Both veterans paired up with classmate Erica Clancy and sophomore Anabelle Durham to take the victory in the women's 400 medley relay and set a new school record (3:41.94). The mark was previously set at last year's A10s, with Lankiewicz, Williams, current junior Kate Moreton, and current sophomore Maggie Farrell.
Junior Taylor Willenbring broke his second school record in as many days, turning in a clip of 55.37, an NCAA B Standard time, and finishing sixth overall in the 100 breast. The old mark was held by alum Spencer Gill (55.88) and set in 2014.
Freshman Crossan Cooper barely missed the podium, finishing fourth in the 400 IM with a time of 3:56.96- a performance that moves him from fifth to second on the all-time lists. Junior Cole Riggan also put in a solid showing in the event, coming in seventh overall and moving from sixth to third on the list (3:58.77).
Junior Clay Resweber was once again narrowly edged out of medal contention, taking fourth in the 200 free. His time of 1:38.50 replaces himself for third on the All-Time Top 10 list, where he is now joined by veteran Spencer Davies, who came in eighth overall and moved into eighth on the list (1:39.74).
Farrell rounded out the Top Eight performances, registering a mark of 56.12 in the 100 fly and taking fifth overall.
The final day begins at 10 a.m., with 200 yard backstroke prelims. The final session of the Championships will start at 6:30 p.m., with the top heats of the men's and women's 1,650 freestyle. Fans can follow via Championship Central (links provided).
