GENEVA, Ohio – Three new school records, two gold medals, a silver and bronze medal, and nine overall Top-Eight finishes paced the Davidson swimming and diving teams on the second day of competition at the Atlantic 10 Championships at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
Senior standout Elise Lankiewicz cruised to victory in the women's 500 freestyle, setting both new league and school records- breaking her own mark on both platforms- with her NCAA B standard time of 4:43.49.
The veteran picked up her second piece of hardware in the 200 freestyle relay, where she partnered with classmates Kassie Shannon and Erica Clancy and sophomore Maggie Farrell to take the gold and set a new program-best in the process (1:31.87). The previous record was set at the 2015 A-10s, where Shannon and Lankiewicz paired with now-alums Angie Healy and Meredith Nakano (1:32.28).
Clancy recorded the fourth-best mark in school history in the 50 freestyle, where her time of 23.24 earned her the silver medal. Shannon was narrowly edged out, finishing in fourth (23.41).
Medaling on the men's side was junior Taylor Willenbring, whose preliminary time of 20.28 set a new program record, taking bronze in the 50 freestyle (20.50). Rounding out the Top-Eight performances was a 500 free duo, where juniors Clay Resweber and Cole Riggan finished fourth and eighth, respectively, and classmate Riley League came in sixth in the 200 IM.
Resweber moved into second-best at Davidson all-time with 4:26.40, while Riggan replaced himself for fourth on the list (4:29.88), while League bettered himself for the third-best time in program history (1:49.81).
