DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson swimming and diving teams head to Geneva, Ohio, for the 2017 Atlantic 10 Championships, their third since joining the league in 2015. The event will be held at the SPIRE Institute beginning Feb. 15-18.
The women took fourth place their first year and improved to third last season, where they set five new conference bests and ten school records. The 'Cats were led by standout Elise Lankiewicz, who claimed her second-straight Most Outstanding Performer title after collecting six gold medals. Lankiewicz also made A-10 history earlier this month after being awarded her sixth Performer of the Week accolade of the season, tying for the most in a single season.
Joining Lankiewicz is classmate Katy Williams, who also turned in a successful Championships last season, where she swept the breaststroke events and set both a new school and league mark in the 100.
The men are looking to build off a seventh-place finish a year ago, and are led by a quartet of performers who have all registered strong 2016-17 campaigns.
Senior Chris Cardwell has turned in Top-Three performances consistently throughout the year, specializing in the 50 freestyle and the butterfly. Juniors Taylor Willenbring and Clay Resweber have each collected multiple first-place finishes in multiple events, and Willenbring was named the A-10 Men's Co-Performer of the Week earlier in the season for his efforts.
Freshman Crossan Cooper has also been a standout in the pool this season, where he has registered multiple performances on the Davidson All-Time Top 10 lists, and has been awarded the Men's Rookie of the Week twice.
Things begin Wednesday, with the women's 1-meter diving at 1:00 p.m., while swimming events begin at 5 p.m., with the 200 yard medley relays.
You can follow along via video and live results at the A-10's Championship Central (link above).
