NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Cort Coxhead of the Davidson men's soccer team has been selected to the Atlantic 10 All-Academic squad, as announced by the league office Wednesday afternoon.
To be eligible for All-Academic, a student-athlete must be a starter or significant reserve, carry a 3.0 GPA and be at least a sophomore academically and eligibility-wise.
A senior defender from Norcross, Ga., Coxhead was a three-year starter for the Wildcats, posting four goals and four assists for 12 total points during his career.
Off the field, the captain is double majoring in physics and pre-medicine.
Davidson finished the 2017 season 8-7-2 overall.
Comments from Head Coach Matt Spear
If you want to identify what's right about college athletics, Cort is a prime example – and a gold standard here with our mission of developing lives of leadership and service.
On the field, he's a consistent performer, team voted Captain, and a player who really stretched to his capacities.
Off the field, Cort's striving continues with a great GPA in a very rigorous pre-med track that includes tough classes, long hours in the lab, and preparation for the MCAT. Plus he's been active in the medical field with shadowing, internships and volunteering.
And then he's impacted as a camp counselor, a buddy to kids with special needs, and a servant leader in ministry.
It makes me happy when good things happen to good people, so I am thrilled for Cort to be honored.
