NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- For the second time in her young career, freshman Ellie Crosley has been crowed the Atlantic 10's Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.
"Ellie has continued to improve throughout the season and I couldn't be more impressed with her competitiveness and ability to execute," head coach Chris Willis said. "She had a great weekend and I can't wait to see what she accomplishes in the future."
The middle hitter had a standout weekend at the net, registering a total of 16 blocks across 10 sets, averaging 1.60 blocks per set. She recorded career-highs in both kills and blocks-- where she registered 13 kills Friday against Duquesne (on a stellar .480 hitting efficiency) and then chiseled in nine blocks on Sunday at La Salle.
The Austin, Texas native finished the weekend with 25 kills after nearly matching her new personal best with 12 on Sunday, carrying a .412 hitting percentage. Crosley ranks in the Top 5 in the league in blocks (107), blocks per set (1.02), and hitting percentage (.347).
Earlier this season, Crosley became the second Wildcat to ever earn A-10 Rookie of the Week accolades, and is also the second Davidson player to ever earn weekly accolades in the same season. She has nearly eclipsed the 200 kills mark, tallying 177 on the season. Crosley and the 'Cats will conclude their 2017 slate Saturday facing league-leaders VCU in Richmond, Va.
