PITTSBURGH, Pa. –
In a near repeat of their heroic final home match last weekend, Davidson ignited early, taking the first two games before Duquesne rallied for the final three by scores of 25-18, 25-13, 23-25, 20-25, 13-15.

Freshman Ellie Crosley recorded a new career-high, tallying 13 kills on a .480 hitting percentage and adding seven blocks and junior Ciera Cockrell registered a team-best 14. Sophomore Elise Edman recorded 18 digs and four aces, falling one-shy of her personal best (set last season at La Salle), and senior Kylie Bishopp also fell one shy of a career-best,  adding 12 digs. Classmate Mary Harriet Moore registered a match-best eight blocks.

"The team competed well and dominated for most of the match," head coach Chris Willis said. "Unfortunately, when we don't compete and execute for the entire match, we don't get the result we want. I'm proud of the strides we're taking, and want to see us continue to get better."

In the opening stanza, the 'Cats built their lead early, recording eight straight points to build a 13-4 lead. They continued to maintain control, using another 4-0 rally later and a final 3-0 sequence to secure the set 25-18 and take a 1-0 advantage in the match.

Davidson dominated Game 2, again leading at a 13-4 mark and keeping a wide gap between themselves and the Dukes. Sophomore Elise Edman secured the set after recording three straight service aces for the final points of the frame to give the 'Cats a 25-13 victory.

The sweep was spoiled by Duquesne, despite Davidson's 3-0 rally to even the frame at 23-23. The Dukes delivered back-to-back kills to take Game 3 25-23.

In the fourth set, despite 10 tied scores, Duquesne dominated late, recording nine of the last 12 points to take the contest 25-20 and force a fifth frame.

The 'Cats battled in the finale, with five tied scores, including at the 13-13 mark after back-to-back slams from Crosley and Cockrell, before the Dukes powered through to take the set 15-13 and steal the match 3-2.

The Wildcats return to action Sunday, traveling to Philadelphia to face La Salle at 1 p.m.
