NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- After a promising debut from rookie Ellie Crosley and another successful season from junior Mason Rooney, the duo has earned Atlantic 10 postseason honors for Davidson volleyball, the league announced Thursday morning. Crosley was named to the seven-member All-Rookie team, while Rooney earned the prestigious All-Academic nod.
"These post season awards are the result of consistent effort and commitment by these individuals," head coach Chris Willis said. "Mason worked diligently in the classroom and on the court. Being recognized for excellence in both arenas is a great accolade for her and the program. Ellie had the difficult task of starting in the middle as a freshman. Transitioning to the DI level in the middle is a difficult task, and her numbers stacked up with the best in the A10. I'm impressed and proud of both of their accomplishments."
Crosley, a two-time A-10 Rookie of the Week, earned a coveted spot on the A-10 All-Rookie squad, and was in the running for the league's Rookie of the Year. She is the second Davidson player to ever earn All-Rookie honors, and was the top freshman in the Atlantic 10 in hitting percentage, blocks, and blocks per set.
The Austin, Texas, native finished the season with 185 kills at a .345 clip, and finished the season with 110 total blocks. Her 24 solo rejections falls just one shy of the Top 10 in single-season program history. Crosley turned in season-bests on the same weekend of her freshman debut, posting 13 kills at Duquesne and nine blocks at La Salle during the weekend of November 3rd.
Rooney, who ranked second in the nation in triple doubles, was tabbed to the All-Academic team after posting one of the top GPAs in the league as a psychology major and communications minor. In addition to serving as one of the team's captains, Rooney is a member of FCA and a Cats Connect mentor.
The Atlanta, Georgia, native finished the year with five triple doubles and 10 double doubles, accumulating 217 kills, 597 assists, 35 service aces, 54 blocks, and 218 digs. Rooney is the second Wildcat to be named to the A-10 All-Academic team, after libero Morgan Shannon was named in both 2014 and 2015.
