AKRON, Ohio – After finishing T-8th in Davidson's fall opener, Jack Lang continued his strong start to the 2017-18 season as the junior sits T-12th after day one of the Firestone Invitational hosted by Akron.
The two-day/54-hole event is being played on the Par 72, 7,125-yard Firestone Country Club North Course.
In addition to the Wildcats and Zips, the 2017 field includes Bradley, Cincinnati, Dayton, Furman, George Mason, Illinois State, Mercer, Ohio, Old Dominion, Richmond, South Carolina Aiken, Temple, William & Mary and Valparaiso.
Lang (74-71 = 145/+1), the 2017 Atlantic 10 Individual Champion, carded a two-over 74 in the morning, before bouncing back with 71 (-1), his 20th career round of par or better. The native of Lexington, Mass., is looking for his sixth Top-10 finish out of just 21 starts.
Freshman Alex Ross (71-78 = 149/+5) opened with a 71 of his own while sophomore Michael Freeman (74-72 = 146/+2) posted the Wildcats' second lowest total of the day, highlighted by an even-par 72 in the afternoon.
As a team, the Wildcats (295-299 = 594) are currently ninth, just 10 shots out of fourth, currently held by South Carolina Aiken.
