DAVIDSON, N.C. -- In addition to playing perennial powerhouse Virginia and its annual Red and Black World Series, Davidson baseball will face the Czech Republic National Team during its fall exhibition schedule.
The Wildcats travel to Cary, N.C., on Sunday (Oct. 15) for an exhibition game against UVA at the USA Baseball National Training Complex. Admission is $10 for the game, with gates opening at 1 p.m. and patrons will be limited to the Stadium field only. No live stats or video streaming will be available.
Upon returning to Davidson, the 'Cats will face the Czech team at 6 p.m. Monday at Wilson Field. The Czech National team, who competed in the qualifying rounds of the most recent World Baseball Classic, consists of players college-age and former professional players. Admission to Wilson Field is free.
The Cavaliers have one of the most storied programs in recent college baseball history, winning the NCAA Championship in 2015, a year after finishing as runner-ups. In fact, Virginia has been a NCAA participant in each of head coach Brian O'Connor's 14 seasons at the helm. O'Connor has seen 15 former players reach Major League status, including Gold Glove winner Ryan Zimmerman.
Davidson will wrap up its fall season with the Red and Black World Series, held the weekend of October 20-22 at Wilson Field.
Davidson had a historic 2017 season, where the Wildcats earned the program's first conference title in its 115-year existence after winning the Atlantic 10 Championship as the number six seed this past May. The team went on to sweep the Chapel Hill Regional, the second number four seed to ever do so and only the sixth to ever advance from a regional. The 'Cats went on to play the longest Game 1 in Super Regional history, a 15-inning thriller against Texas A&M in College Station, Texas.
