DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson Swimming and diving picked up three victories Saturday at the Davidson Duals, as the men downed Gardner-Webb 199.5-140.5, and the women defeated both Georgia Southern (210-139) and Gardner-Webb (205.5-130.5), but fell to Liberty 188-148.
23 Top-Three performances highlighted the finale of the two-day competition, led by nine winning races. Senior stalwart Elise Lankiewicz picked up another two victories, taking both the 500 free (5:01.36) and 100 fly (56.96) events. Classmate Katy Williams continued her dominance in the breaststroke, finishing over three seconds ahead of the next competitor in the 200 (2:22.52).
On the men's side, junior Clay Resweber secured the top spot in the 500 free (4:42.20), joined by classmate Taylor Willenbring in the 100 (47.38) and a pair of rookies in Brian Hynes (200 back; 1:54.74) and Crossan Cooper, who was neck-and-neck until the breaststroke portion of the 400 IM, when he pulled ahead and cruised to victory (4:06.94).
Sophomore diver Johnny Evans collected his first collegiate win, scoring 218 points in the three-meter diving.
The quartet of senior Chris Cardwell, Resweber, junior Ari Snyder, and Willenbring delivered a thrilling final event to close the day, when they came from behind in the men's 200 free relay to out-touch GWU for the win (1:25.62). The Runnin' Bulldogs carried the lead into the third leg, when Snyder caught and surpassed them, providing enough of a lead for Willenbring to finish.
The 'Cats collected seven second-place finishes, and added another seven thirds to round out the Top Three.
The Wildcats will next dive into action at the Atlantic 10 Championships, set for Feb.15-18 in Geneva, Ohio.
