Armas Earns First A-10 Rookie of the Week Honor

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — After helping the Davidson women's tennis team to a season-opening win Sunday vs. Wofford, freshman Samantha Armas earned the first Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league office today.

Armas went 2-0 in her collegiate debut last Sunday in singles and doubles. A native of Acworth, Ga., the freshman helped the Wildcats seal up the doubles point by teaming up with Megan Scholvinck at the No. 1 spot and winning a 7-5 tie-breaker.

She then earned one of the six singles wins on the afternoon by cruising to a 6-1, 6-1 decision at No. 6.

Armas is the fifth Wildcat to earn rookie of the week honors during Davidson's three years in the Atlantic 10.

Davidson next hosts Gardner-Webb, Jan. 28, at 10 a.m.
