WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Davidson men's track and field had a successful return to the track on Saturday, taking first in the Wake Forest Invite at the JDL Fast Track. The 'Cats were led by two new program records and another three winning performances to help propel the 'Cats to the team victory.
"We had a very solid meet coming off our winter break," men's track and field coach Renny Waldron said. "It was great to see where we stack up against some very competitive teams. A month out from the A-10 Championship, we are happy with where we are, but a lot of work needs to be done between then and now."
Junior Jacob Hostetler set a new school best in the 200m dash at 22.59, where he finished seventh overall. Senior distance stalwart Will Brewster took the top prize in the mile, clocking in with a new school record at 4:11.95.
Another top distance runner delivered, as junior Ramsay Ritchie won the 3,000m run with a time of 8:31.70. Rounding out the winning performances was the men's 4x4 relay, where the quartet of senior Ben Corson, sophomore Cole Reynolds, freshman Garrett Nickelson, and sophomore Sean Caveney. Nickelson's leg as the third split may have been the key to the win, giving the 'Cats the cushion that Caveney needed to pull out the win.
Nickelson was also successful in the 400m dash, picking up a seventh place on a time of 50.07, ranking him in the Top Eight in the Atlantic 10.
A pair of second-place performances wrapped up the Wildcats return, as Walker Mogen finished right behind his classmate in the mile (4:15.52), and freshman James Davis clearing a height of 4.40m in the pole vault. Davis and the event winner, an unattached decathlete, recorded the same final height, but Davis took second by having more attempts.
The Wildcats return to the track Saturday, Jan. 28 at the Terrier Invitational hosted by Boston University.
