
DCSD's Lankiewicz and Cooper Claim A-10 Weekly Honors

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Davidson swimming and diving started 2017 in strong fashion, picking up two weekly league awards, as announced by the Atlantic 10 office Tuesday afternoon. Senior standout Elise Lankiewicz earned her fourth Women's Performer of the Week this season, while freshman Crossan Cooper picked up his second Men's Co-Rookie of the Week.
Lankiewicz had a perfect day in the pool, claiming four firsts in Davidson's dual meet with UNC Wilmington last Friday. The two-time A-10 Performer of the Year dominated her competition in the 500 freestyle, clocking in more than 15 seconds faster than the second-place finisher at 4:56.11, and touched in over four seconds ahead in the 200 freestyle (1:50.04).
She began the day by swimming the butterfly portion of the 200 medley relay, where she and sophomore Anabelle Durham, and classmates Katy Williams and Erica Clancy, edged out the Seahawks for the top mark. Lankiewicz finished the day swimming anchor in the 400 free relay that also took first.
The Wilmington, Del., native owns Top 10 times in the league in every event she has swam this season, including the best in five different events. The honor marks the ninth weekly plaudit of her career, taking it twice last season and three times in 2014-15.
Cooper recorded a first, second, and fourth place Friday afternoon en route to his second weekly accolade of the season and his career.
The freshman started the meet taking the top prize in the 1,000 freestyle, clocking in at 9:42.87, finishing over eight seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. He was the Wildcats' best finisher in the men's 200 breast, coming in fourth overall at 2:10.38. Cooper finished his day with a second in the 400 IM (4:09.16).
Cooper owns times in the Top Five in the league in four different events this season, including the third-best in the 1,000 free and the fourth best in the 400 IM.
Cooper was also the Co-Rookie of the Week during the week of November 1 after claiming three firsts in a dual meet with Georgetown.
Lankiewicz and Cooper and the rest of the Wildcats return to the pool this weekend, welcoming William & Mary for a Saturday dual meet beginning at 1:00 p.m. in Cannon Natatorium.
