RADFORD, Va. – A goal in each half lifted No. 20 Radford to a 2-0 victory over Davidson in non-conference men's soccer action Saturday night at Cupp Stadium.
The Highlanders, who were an at-large selection into last year's NCAA Tournament, improve to 3-0-0, while the 'Cats fall to 0-3-0 on the young season.
Midway through the first half Sivert Daehlie put Radford in front 1-0 when he followed up a Neil Martorana shot attempt that rebounded off the Wildcats' keeper Andrew Kenneson.
Kenneson, who faced 21 shots, finished with a game-high seven saves.
The Highlanders held a 9-6 edge in shots on frame, while Davidson concluded with a 6-5 margin in corners.
Seconds prior to intermission, Davidson's Jordan Hill just missed an equalizer when his attempt following a Ned Morrissett corner hit the post.
Shortly after the two teams traded scoring chances, Jakob Strandsater's free kick extended the Highlanders' lead to 2-0 in the 72nd minute.

Coach Spear's Postgame Comments
"We lost to a good team tonight that is in very good form. They were especially strong early in the match. And we got behind again."
"Our energy and sharpness and flow was much better later in the first half, with the introduction of substitutes such as freshmen Malcolm McCabe, John Dale, Jaylen Thompson and Charlie Caswell. And we were really close to pulling a goal back when Charlie was stopped on a point blank shot and Jordan Hill hit the post."
"The second half had more quality scoring chances by Charlie, Maxi Pragnell, Jon Creel and others. But we were not able to convert."
"Their second half goal was the second game in a row where our wall has not done its job to stay strong - and anything through the wall is impossible for the goalie to stop. So defending set pieces remain a crucial area of needed improvement."
"No one likes where our record is but we will push through it with continued work, strong mindset, belief and development. We have a full, winning 90-minute performance within us."
"I expect a very focused week of training in front of us."
