DAVIDSON, N.C. — Davidson returns home for the first time since September 9 and plays host to La Salle Sunday in the Wildcats' first Atlantic 10 home game of the season.
The Matchup
Davidson (4-5, 0-0 A-10), which plays at VCU for its A-10 opener Thursday evening, will host the La Salle Explorers Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. in its second league game.
The Wildcats are 3-2 at home this year and currently riding a three-game win streak, with victories coming against Wofford (3-0), ETSU (4-3) and Marist (6-0). Its the longest unbeaten streak since 2012 when they went 2-0-2 in the ealry stages of the season.
The All-Time Series/Last Meetings
This will be just the second meeting all-time against the Explorers, who took the first matchup a year ago on their home field, 1-0.
Weekly Awards
Seeley Yoo: Yoo Named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week- After registering a career game in the win vs. ETSU, freshman Seeley Yoo earned the women's soccer Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week for games played, Aug. 29-Sept. 4. The midfielder earned Davidson's first-ever A-10 player of the week honor since joining the league for the 2014-15 season. It also marks the first time since 2011 that a Wildcat has been honored with a player of the week award when Becca Fisher was named the SoCon Player of the Week, Oct. 18.
Alex Carpenter: Carpenter Gives 'Cats Second A-10 W. Soccer Player of Week- For the second week in a row, the Davidson women's soccer team picked up an Atlantic 10 Player of the Week with sophomore goalkeeper Alex Carpenter earning the defender of the week for games played, Sept. 5-12. A native from Lee's Summit, Mo., the sophomore had a strong week between the pipes in leading Davidson to a 1-1 record. Carpenter finished with 16 saves, a 0.67 goals against average and earned half a shutout in games vs. Marist and Wake Forest last week.
Scouting the Wildcats
Davidson finished its non-conference slate of games with a 4-5 record ... its looking to halt a two-game skid after dropping a 2-0 decision at Elon back on Sept. 15 ... the Wildcats have not played a game since that contest ... they play at VCU Thursday night in their A-10 opener ... Davidson is 15-6-1 in league openers (10-5 on the road, 5-1-1 at home) after falling 1-0 to La Salle last year ... this will be the fourth straight season the 'Cats will open on the road for its conference opener ... freshman Seeley Yoo paces Davidson's offense with seven points on three goals and an assist ... fellow freshman Virginia Jesselson has six points on two goals and two assists ... Of the Wildcats' 15 goals this year, freshmen have scored seven of those goals ... the first-years also have seven of the team's 10 assists, led by Jesselson and Sabine Chandler's two each ... senior Maggie Boyd has a team-high 14 shots ... goalkeeper Alex Carpenter has started all seven of her games and has a team-best 38 saves, which ranks fifth in the A-10 ... her 1.17 goals against average is good for eighth in the league, while she ranks second in save percentage (.844) ... Becca Ravitz has started two of her four games played between the pipes, with 17 saves and a 2-0 record to go with 1.5 shutouts ... Yoo (Rookie) and Carpenter (Defender) have both won A-10 players of the week this year ... head coach Greg Ashton is two wins away from becoming the program's all-time winningest coach, entering Thursday's game at VCU with 116 victories ... the 'Cats return 21 letterwinners, including eight starters ... they welcome 10 newcomers to this year's team ... Davidson was picked to finish 13th in their third year in the A-10.
Scouting the Explorers
La Salle enters Thursday's A-10 opener with a 2-6 overall record ... it plays at home against UMass before coming to Davidson Sunday ... the Explorers have dropped their last four games, including a 1-0 setback at St. John's, Sept. 18 ... that defeat was on the heels of a 3-2 double-overtime defeat to Villanova, Sept. 15 ... La Salle is 1-3 on the road this year ... Deja Davis and Maci Bower have two goals each to pace the offense, which has scored 10 total goals on the season ... between the pipes, Larisa Zambelli has started all eight games, owns 43 saves to with a 2.16 goals against average and one shutout ... both Davis and Paige McDowell were named to the A-10 all-preseason, while La Salle was picked to finish fourth ... the Explorers went to four straight NCAA Tournament from 2011-14 and reached the semifinals last year in the A-10 Tournament ... head coach Paul Royal is in his 13th season and is a four-time A-10 Coach of the Year winner.
