DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson earned its first league point of the season, while keeping its home unbeaten streak alive when it played to a scoreless draw at home Sunday against La Salle in Atlantic 10 women's soccer action at Alumni Stadium.
The Wildcats saw their record move to 4-6-1 (0-1-1 A-10) on the season. The Explorers' overall record went to 3-6-1 and 1-0-1 in league play.
Quick Hits About and From the Game:
• This was just the second meeting between both school's women's soccer programs, as they first met last year at La Salle, which earned a 1-0 win.
• Davidson pushed its home unbeaten streak to four (3-0-1) games, matching the longest streak since 2012 when it went 2-0-2.
• Head coach Greg Ashton remained two wins from becoming the program's all-time winningest coach. He entered the day with 116 victories during his 12 years at Davidson.
• La Salle ended with a 13-8 edge in shots, while the 'Cats had a 6-5 advantage in corner kicks.
• Alex Carpenter, making her ninth start between the pipes, finished with seven saves to give her 48 on the season.
• She had a couple big saves in the second half and overtime to keep the game scoreless.
• The shutout was the sophomores' first whole shutout of the season, giving her 1.5 after sharing a shutout earlier this season.
• Of the Wildcats' eight shots, four of them went on goal, with Virginia Jesselson putting both of her shots on frame to pace the team.
• Jesselson nearly drew a penalty inside the box at the end of the first half as she had a breakaway, but a questionable no-call was made as her and a La Salle defender got tripped up and fell down.
• The scoreless draw was Davidson's first since ending the 2014 season against UMass with a 0-0 tie at home.
The Wildcats remain at home for their next A-10 game, hosting Dayton this coming Thursday night, Oct. 6, at 7 p.m.
