NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Davidson women's cross country team was selected seventh in the 2016 Atlantic 10 Preseason Coaches' Poll, announced by the league Tuesday.
Reigning A-10 Rookie of the Year Caroline Yarbrough returns for her sophomore campaign after crossing the line third overall at the 2015 Championship in 17:20.9. Along with Yarbrough, the 'Cats return all five of their scorers from last season's championship. Joining the sophomore is junior Allison Cheeseman, senior Hayden Bates, junior Sarah Sears and senior Caroline Turner all return to the start line for Head Coach Jen Straub.
"The depth of the A-10 on the women's side is very strong, so mixing it up with the top half of the conference is a great challenge," said Straub. "I am looking forward to watching the freshmen women race! I believe they will make an immediate impact on the team."
Davidson opens the 2016 season Friday, Sept. 2 at the Charlotte Preview Meet in Concord, N.C. The 'Cats return to the A-10 Championship Saturday, Oct. 29 back at Pole Green Park in Richmond, Va.
