DAVIDSON, N.C. – After narrowly missing the Atlantic 10 Tournament in 2015, Davidson volleyball was selected to finish seventh in the 2016 Preseason Poll, as announced by the league office Tuesday.
The 'Cats return 12 players from last season and welcome four newcomers for 2016, as they look to seek an A-10 Tournament berth for the first time since joining the league.
Leading the returners are seniors Mikayla Derochie and Emily Franklin and sophomore Sabrina Shepherd, the 2015 A-10 Rookie of the Year.
"Preseason polls are often a reflection of the previous year's results," head coach Chris Willis said. "This year's poll is very indicative of the 2015 season. We have several starters coming back and expect to perform at a higher level this season. We plan on being in St. Louis for the tournament in November, which will be a benchmark for the program and an accomplishment for all the hard work our girls have put in. We can't wait for the season to begin."
Dayton, which finished last season a perfect 14-0 in conference play, tied for first with Saint Louis, while George Washington and Rhode Island round out the top four selections.
The 'Cats begin their 2016 campaign this weekend, traveling to Wilmington, N.C., for the UNCW Courtyard by Marriott Classic. The squad will face Jacksonville, Winthrop, and host UNCW.
