DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Elizabethton Twins, advanced rookie affiliate of the Minnesota Twins, announced late Monday evening the promotion of Davidson alum Clark Beeker.
Beeker, a right handed pitcher, graduated last May after spending five seasons with the 'Cats, earning a redshirt in 2013 due to injury. He was drafted by the Twins in the 33rd round in early June, becoming the 10th Wildcat to be drafted under current Davidson head coach Dick Cooke.
Beeker, a native of Lexington, N.C., spent the first two months of his professional career with short-season rookie affiliate GCL Twins in Fort Myers, Fla., where he posted a stellar 2.51 ERA, collected two saves, 40 strikeouts, and a 2-1 record across 12 games (starting one).
"The environment is definitely different compared to the college atmosphere in terms of focusing on player development and individual performance, but I remind myself that its really no different that pitching at Wilson Field," Beeker said. "My experience at Davidson prepared me for my time in Fort Myers and I look forward to the next two weeks in Elizabethton."
The Twins currently sit in a playoff position with 10 games remaining. Elizabethton is in second in the Appalachian League West, just two games back of division leader Johnson City.
The Twins play a twinbill beginning at 6 p.m. Tuesday, with Beeker slated to start the second game. Fans can listen via links provided.
