
Pairings Announced For A-10 Women’s Basketball

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — The Atlantic 10 Conference announced Thursday the women's basketball league opponent pairings for the 2016-17 season.
Davidson, entering its third year in the league, will face each of the 13 conference opponents during a 16-game A-10 slate. The Wildcats will play eight home and eight away games.
The home and home series this year will see the Wildcats face Fordham, George Mason and Massachusetts. It marks the third year in a row the 'Cats will face Fordham twice. In addition, Davidson will host Dayton, La Salle, Rhode Island, Richmond and Saint Louis, while playing on the road against Duquesne, George Washington, St. Bonaventure, Saint Joseph's and VCU.
During the 2015-16 season, the Atlantic 10 had six women's basketball teams qualify for postseason play – three in the NCAA Tournament and three in the Women's NIT. George Washington defeated third-seeded Duquesne in the 2016 championship final at the Richmond Coliseum, earning the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, and was joined by Duquesne and St. Bonaventure in the field of 64. Dayton, Saint Louis and VCU were selected to take part in the WNIT.
The 2017 A-10 Championship will feature a new, enhanced format, with six first-round games being on campus sites before heading to Richmond, Friday through Sunday, for the quarterfinals, semifinals and championship final games. The top two championship seeds will receive a bye, with the remainder of the field facing off in games hosted by seeds 3-8 for the first round. The first round will take place on the Saturday and Sunday prior to the weekend of the quarterfinals, semifinals and final. In 2017 the first round will be Feb. 25-26 with the three final rounds being played March 3-5.
The complete 2016-17 Wildcat women's basketball schedule along with dates for the A-10 opponents will be released at a later date.
Davidson returns eight letterwinners, including its top scorer rising junior Mackenzie Latt, a former A-10 All-Rookie Team member. The forward averaged a personal-best 14.2 points a game and hauled in over six rebounds, pacing the team with 193 rebounds overall, while shooting 46 percent from the floor. Latt's 187 made field goals were the fifth-most in a Wildcat single season.
