FAIRFAX, Va. – The Davidson women's track and field program registered six top-10 finishes, including a first-place finish in the 4x800 relay to conclude the 2016 Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track and Field Championships at George Mason Stadium.
The Wildcats wrapped up the two-day event with 44 team points, the best team score in recent years.
Following the conclusion of the meet, Caroline Yarbrough, Hannah Rieden and Sarah Paddon each earned all-conference honors.
In a thrilling 4x800 relay, the Davidson foursome ran a stellar race. The team of Ashlyn Gruber, Brigid Behrens, Paddon and Rieden raced to the top of the podium in record-setting fashion. The 'Cats clocked an 8:50.10, thanks in large part of Rieden's strong final leg. The quartet earned all-conference honors.
Earlier in the day, Reiden ran a gusty race in the 800 finals to earn a second-place finish. The junior covered the distance in 2:11.39, a mere 0.34 seconds behind winner Nichelle Scott of VCU. In the preliminaries, Reiden set a new program mark with a time of 2:10.07.
In the 1,500, Paddon raced her way to the podium. Paddon crossed in 4:32.75 to finish third in a competitive race.
Caroline Yarbrough found herself on the podium once again, racing to a third-place finish in the 5,000. Yarbrough, who finished second in the 10,000 yesterday, made a strong push with two miles to go to cross the line in 17:40.15. The rookie contributed 14 team points on the weekend.
Allison Cheeseman and Caroline Turner represented Davidson in the 5,000. Cheeseman took 10th with a time of 18:15.30, while Turner covered the distance in 18:53.33 to rank 20th.
Senior Brigid Behrens earned a seventh-place finish in the 800 with a time of 2:15.37.
VCU won the championship with 137 total points, while George Mason (126) and Rhode Island (102.50) took second and third, respectively.
