BRONX, N.Y. – In addition to Durin O'Linger's first five scoreless innings, six multi-hit performances helped lift the No. 6-seeded Davidson baseball team to an 8-4 upset over No. 3 Saint Joseph's in the opening game of the 2016 Atlantic 10 Championship Wednesday at Houlihan Park.
O'Linger silenced the Hawks to just one hit in the first five innings of play as Davidson (26-24) raced out to a five run lead in its first six at bats. But Saint Joseph's (29-22) rallied for two runs in both the sixth and seventh innings that made it a one-run ballgame heading into the ninth.
After Max Bazin led off with a walk, Brian Fortier's two-out single scored the first of three insurance runs Davidson needed in it's final at bat. The Wildcats capped off its impressive offense after a double steal led to a score, before an Alec Acosta double to right-center field scored Lee Miller.
Westin Whitmire retired the final three batters to secure the ballgame, as he recorded his eighth save of the season.
