DAVIDSON, N.C. – Following a practice round Thursday, Davidson will begin play in the 2016 Atlantic 10 Men's Golf Championship Friday at the Villas of Grand Cypress in Orlando, Fla.
The three-day/54-hole event will tee off Friday morning at 7:30 a.m. on the Par 72, 7,024-yard layout.
A year ago, the Wildcats finished third in their first-ever A-10 Championship behind VCU and Richmond. Led by all-conference performers David Sargent and Todd Eckstein, Davidson held the first-round lead before finishing at 869 (+5).
Sargent, who tied for fifth a year ago, leads the 2015-16 Davidson squad with a 74.22 stroke average.
Fellow senior Alex Nianouris (77.0 stroke average), junior Andy Simmons (77.15) and freshmen Jack Lang (77.13) and Mike Blasey (76.21) will also compete for the Wildcats this weekend. Both Blasey and Lang are coming off personal-best rounds of one-under 70.
VCU, which is led by last year's individual champion Adam Ball, was tabbed the league favorite in the preseason poll. The Rams are looking to win their third straight team title.
The winner of the event will receive the Atlantic 10's automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals.
Live scoring will be available each day at GolfStat.com.
