PITTSBURGH, Pa. — In a key Atlantic 10 women's lacrosse matchup, Davidson saw its two-game win streak come to an end with an 8-4 setback on the road to Duquesne Friday afternoon at Rooney Field.
Both teams are battling for one of the top-six slots to advance to the league championship. The Dukes (7-7) moved ahead of Davidson with a 5-2 record, while the 'Cats fell to 4-3 in A-10 action and 7-7 overall.
Morgan Burch and Nicole Pettiglio brought the Wildcats to within 3-2 with 4:29 left in the first half with their ninth and 13th goals, respectively. But, Duquesne answered with two late goals to close out the half for a 5-2 lead and then held Davidson to just two second-half scores to secure the win.
Pettiglio had her fourth multi-goal game of the season with a pair of scores, while Annie Brockett scored the other goal. Christine Molinari picked up her team-leading 19th assist to give her 30 points, second-most on the team.
Duquesne's Jill Vacanti recorded three points on two goals and an assist, while Tess Drotar scored twice.
Both teams were nearly equal on shots, with the Dukes picking up one more than Davidson's 22. The 'Cats tied a season-high with 22 groundballs as six different players record two or more, led by Maddy Sivilli's four. She also added a pair of caused turnovers.
Fresh off winning her second A-10 Defender of the Week award, goalie Rose Woolson finished with nine saves to give her 90 on the season. The Dukes' Jenna Bishop stopped four shots in goal.
The 'Cats will turn around and play at St. Bonaventure this Sunday, April 24.
