MASON, Ohio — Davidson started off the Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis Championships with an impressive 4-0 win over 14th-seeded La Salle Thursday in the first round.
Seeded third, the Wildcats improved to 16-4 on the year, the most wins since a 19-win campaign in 2008. They advance to take on sixth-seeded Duquesne, a 4-1 winner over Saint Joseph's, Friday at 1:30 p.m. in the quarterfinals.
Due to rainy weather in the area, all matches were forced inside and the format was flipped to start with singles first. Davidson dominated from the start, not giving up a single game in scoring 6-0, 6-0 wins at No. 2-5 positions.
Megan Scholvinck and Elaina Cummer each won their third straight matches and picked up their 11th and 13th wins, respectively. It was the senior Cummer's 40th overall for her career.
Giving the 'Cats their other two points was Gabrielle Centenari and Ava Todd at No. 2 and 3 positions. Centenari ran her record to 12-5 and won her second of the season at No. 2. Todd tallied her team-best 14th victory of the season and the 33rd in just two seasons.
