FAIRFAX, Va. — The Davidson men's tennis team kept their winning ways going in league play, taking home their fourth straight Atlantic 10 match with a 4-2 decision Saturday afternoon over host George Mason on the Patriots' Tennis Courts.
The Wildcats, who are now 3-4 on the road, won their fourth straight overall to run their record to 9-7 and 4-1 in A-10 action, while sending the Patriots to 7-12 overall and 1-5 in the league.
Sealing up the match win was Ricky Saad at No. 4 singles. The junior was playing his first singles match of the season and came through big, scoring a straight-set 7-5, 6-2 victory for his 12th career win.
For the seventh time this year, Davidson grabbed the early lead by winning the doubles point. The duo of Artem Khrapko and Shamael Chaudhry won their first doubles match together this year with a 6-3 score at No. 1. Then David Hager and Jack Riazzi finished it off with a 7-5 win at No. 3, the duo's fifth win this year and Davidson's 22nd overall as a team in doubles.
Khrapko made it a perfect day by coming back from a set down after falling 6-1 to cruise to 6-2 and 6-0 wins at No. 2 singles. He evened his record at 8-8 and moved to 4-1 in A-10 matches.
Giving the 'Cats' their other singles win in addition to Saad was Riazzi at N. 6. The sophomore registered his fourth straight win and improved to a team-best tying 10-5 (5-0 vs. A-10) with a nice 6-2, 6-2 decision.
Seeing his personal-best five-match singles win streak snapped was Hager at No. 3, falling 6-4, 6-3.
The Wildcats will play at James Madison Sunday, April 3, to finish out the weekend.
