KANNAPOLIS, N.C. – Senior David Sargent paced the Davidson golf team with a 12th place finish out of 89 competitors at the 2016 Cabarrus County Irish Creek Intercollegiate on Sunday.
For Sargent, who recorded a 54-hole total of 216 (+3), it was his fifth career Top-15 finish.
The two-day event was played on the Par 71, 7,099-yard Club at Irish Creek layout.
In addition to co-hosts Davidson and Charlotte, the 16-team field featured Akron, Appalachian State, Dartmouth, East Carolina, Florida State, James Madison, Kennesaw State, Mercer, North Carolina, North Florida, UNCG, UNCW, VCU, Wake Forest.
No. 14 Wake Forest (287-281-287 = 855) captured the team title by four shots over Kennesaw State (284-283-292 = 859), which entered the final day as the leader.
James Madison's Ryan Cole (67-70-66 / -10) fired three consecutive rounds of under par, including a final-round 66 to claim the individual crown by seven strokes.
In all, five Top-50 teams and seven Top-100 individuals competed in the annual event.
