
End of Year Banquet Wraps up Wildcats' 2015-16 Season

DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Davidson women's basketball team and sixth-year head coach Michele Savage concluded the 2015-16 year by wrapping up the season with their annual end of the year banquet Wednesday, March 30.
The Wildcats honored their three seniors Hannah Early, Dakota Dukes and Alexandra Long with senior awards, while handing out three other team awards for the year. Early was honored with the team's Wildcat Award, while Dukes was given the Most Improved Award and sophomore Mackenzie Latt earned the team's Most Valuable Player Award.
Davidson finished the 2015-16 campaign with an 11-19 overall record and went 5-11 in A-10 play. The senior duo of Early and Dukes played a big part in helping the 'Cats improve from the 2014-15 season. They averaged 11.1 and 13.1 points per game, respectively, and were third (5.9) and first (6.7) on the team in rebounding. Early capped off her final season by hitting a team-best 63 three-pointers and nailed 86.4 percent of her free throws (38-44). Dukes led the team in field goal percentage at 48.9 percent, good for eighth in the A-10, and blocked a career-high 34 shots (eighth in A-10) while leading the team with 80 offensive rebounds.
In addition to their outstanding senior seasons, the pair also leaves Davidson with their names scattered throughout the record books. Early set the all-time made three-point
mark this year, finishing with 231 for her career and placed fourth all-time in career scoring with 1,406 points. The Huntersville, N.C., native ranks in the Wildcats' top-15 all-time in nine categories overall, including seventh in total rebounds (650). She also holds the single-season made three-point record with 74 (2014-15) and ranks in the top-10 single season record book in five categories. Early set the single-game three-point attempts record this year with 14 at Rhode Island. She finished her career scoring 20 or more points 16 times, which is tied for fifth most since the program was restarted in 1992-93. Early was one of two Wildcats to start all 30 games this year and finished her career starting 93 of her 130 games played.
Dukes concluded her career with 1,280 points, eighth-most all-time in the record book. Her name is found in nine overall categories in the Wildcat top-15, including third in made free throws (350) and second in attempts (486), and fifth in rebounds with 734. As a sophomore, Dukes set the single-season made free throw mark with 147 and finished second in attempts with 193. Overall, she ranks in four single-season top-10 categories. The Raleigh, N.C., native registered a team-high seven double-doubles this year to give her 17 for her career, which is the fifth most since 1992-93. Dukes wrapped up her career starting 112 of her 124 games played, including all 28 games this year she played in.
Following a standout first year, Latt was even better during her sophomore season. The forward paced the team in several categories, including scoring (14.2, 427 points), total rebounds (193), steals (46) and made and attempted field goals (184-399). She scored in double figures a team-best 25 times this year (had a 12-game streak) to give her 45 in her two-year career, while reaching the 20-point mark four times to go with a couple of double-doubles. In just two seasons, Latt has started all 60 of her games played and has scored 774 points (12.9 per game) to go with 439 rebounds (7.3 per game).
Long ended her Wildcat career this year by starting 13 of her 30 games played and dishing out a team-best 61 assists. She finished her career starting 50 of her 121 games overall to go with 207 career assists, 357 points and 223 rebounds. The Great Falls, Va., native also hit 76.8 percent of her career free throws.
Davidson played its second year in the Atlantic 10 as it moved into the conference in 2014-15 after a 21-year run in the Southern Conference. The Wildcats' season ended this year in the first round of the league tournament with a defeat to Richmond.
