
Wildcats Finish Strong on Final Day of Winthrop Invitational

ROCK HILL, S.C. – On the final day of the 2016 Adidas Winthrop Invitational, the Davidson track program turned in strong performances thanks to 10 top-15 finishes.
Senior Charles Rappe raced to a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles. The senior stopped the clock at 54.23, while rookie Sean Caveney took eighth place with a time of 55.15.
In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Will Jones raced to a third place finish. Jones clocked a 9:52.84.
The Wildcats showcased their depth in the 800-meter, posting four top-15 finishes. Ryan Phillips, Ben Corson and Amir Pappu finished 7-8-9 in the half mile. Phillips posted a time of 1:55.54, Corson finished in 1:55.64 and Pappu clocked a 1:56.13. Sophomore Ramsay Ritchie ranked 13th overall with a time of 1:58.69.
The 4x400 relay team earned a fifth place finish. The foursome of Caveney, Rappe, Rollo and Hostetler clocked a 3:20.94.
In the triple jump, Chris Powell turned in a jump of 40'.075" in the triple jump to finish ninth overall.
On the women's side, Senior Ashlyn Gruber raced to a second-place finish in the half-mile. Gruber covered the 800-meter in 2:13.64, just .03 seconds out of first-place.
In the 1,500-meter, Rachel McKay led a trio of Wildcats. McKay clocked a 5:03.76 to take 13th, while Abby Fry covered the distance in 5:05.18 to rank 14th. Laney O'Shea wasn't far behind, finishing in 5:07.55 to finish 17th overall.
