'Cats Open A-10 Play with Three-Game Series Against UMass

DAVIDSON, N.C. -- The Davidson baseball team will continue its eight-game homestand Friday and Saturday when it welcomes Massachusetts to Wilson Field for both teams' A-10 opening weekend. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. on Friday, while Saturday's doubleheader will begin at 2 p.m.
The Wildcats (12-9) hold a 11-4 record at Wilson Field this season, thanks to a five-game win streak which wins over Iona College Tuesday and Wednesday. Davidson outscored the Gaels 25-2, holding Iona to just a .125 batting average, while hitting .417 as a team. Cam Johnson led both teams with a 4-for-6 performance with one RBI, while Lee Miller and Cameron Marshall both tallied four RBI thanks to home runs.
Brian Fortier leads the squad with 24 hits, including two doubles, and 13 RBI for a .333 batting average. On the mound, Clark Beeker (4-0) leads the team with an impressive 1.95 ERA, allowing just eight earned runs with 29 strikeouts in a team-high 37.0 innnings. Beeker pitched 8.0 innings last Friday and only allowed four runs - one earned - off six hits with six strikeouts against Furman to remain undefeated this season.
UMass (3-8) enter the series with wins over Army and Maine. Dylan Morris leads the Minutemen with 17 hits, including two doubles, and 10 RBI for a .405 batting average. Two other Minutemen are batting over .300. On the mound, Ryan Moloney leads the squad with a 2.18 ERA, allowing 11 runs - five earned - off 18 hits in a team-high 20.2 innings.
