
Three Track Athletes Earn All-Academic Honors

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Patrick Rollo, Daniel Samet and Hannah Rieden of the Davidson track and field programs were named to the Atlantic 10 All-Academic team, the league announced Thursday.

Rollo captured his second consecutive conference crown in the 800 meter at the 2016 A-10 Indoor Track and Field Championship. The senior, who holds the program mark in the event, raced to the top of the podium with a time of 1:56.31. Rollo's time was a mere 0.5 seconds faster than second-place finisher Steven Thompson from Saint Joseph's. The Owings Mills, Md., native also anchored the 4x800 relay, pacing the Wildcats to a new school record with a time of 7:52.28 to best the previous mark of 7:56.69. Rollo is majoring in psychology.

Samet picked up valuable points for the Wildcats at the 2016 Indoor Track and Field Championships in two distance events. Hailing from Washington, D.C., Samet finished fifth in the 5,000 with a time of 14:54.38, before crossing the line in 4:21.36 in the mile to place ninth overall. Earlier in the season, the senior co-captain clocked career-bests in the 3,000-meter (8:32.27) and the 5,000-meter (14:42.30) events. Samet is studying history.

On the women's side, Hannah Rieden competed in the 800-meter event at the A-10 Indoor Championships. The junior contended for the title in record-setting fashion, but was edged by Massachusetts' Heather McLean. Rieden clocked in at 2:12.41, a new program mark, knocking off 1.15 seconds from her preliminary time of 2:13.56. The Austin, Texas, native has now broke the half-mile record three times this season. Rieden was also part of the distance medley relay and the 4x800 relay teams. Rieden is an environmental studies major.

The Davidson track and field programs open the 2016 spring slate this weekend, March 17-19 at the UNC Charlotte 49er Classic.
