DAVIDSON, N.C. — Sophomore Ava Todd added another weekly award to her career Wildcat resume, earning the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week as announced Tuesday afternoon by the league office.
It was Todd's fifth career weekly award after grabbing A-10 Rookie Performer of the Week three times and performer of the week once last year as a freshman.
The second-year player helped the Wildcats open league play with a pair of 5-2 road wins last weekend at George Mason and George Washington. Todd went 2-0 on the weekend in singles play. The sophomore from Baltimore, Md., recorded 6-2, 7-5 and 6-3, 6-4 wins at No. 2 singles over the Patriots and Colonials. Her win at GW clinched the match victory for the Wildcats, who pushed their win streak to a season-best four straight at the time.
Todd, who pushed her personal win streak to five in a row Tuesday afternoon with a win at Richmond, owns a team-best mark of 8-2 overall and 3-0 in league play. Just a year ago, she rattled off a 16-match win streak on her way to a 19-win season.
In addition to her eight singles wins this year, the sophomore has also collected two doubles victories with freshman Megan Scholvinck at No. 3.
Davidson takes a 10-day break, returning home to host Campbell and Elon, March 11-12.
