
Yarbrough, Rieden Lead Davidson's Strong Start at A-10s

Day 1 Results
KINGSTON, R.I. - Caroline Yarbrough and Hannah Rieden paced the Davidson women's track and field team on day one of the 2016 Atlantic 10 Indoor Track & Field Championship.
"We started the day with a strong performance and points on the board," said Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Jen Straub. "Caroline Yarbrough won her heat of the 5K and finished third overall in a gutsy solo performance. Hannah Rieden won her heat in the 800 and broke the school record. The DMR team ran a solid race. With only 10 ladies competing, we had some great performances. Tomorrow, we hope to add some great performances and points to the championship."
Yarbrough ran a gutsy race in the 5,000-meter to earn a third-place finish. The rookie clocked a 17:20.64 to earn a spot on the podium.
Hannah Rieden set a new program mark in the 800-meter preliminaries. The junior qualified for the finals after stopping the clock at 2:13.56 to rank third.
The women's distance medley relay posted a seventh-place finish. The foursome of Ashlyn Gruber, Tori Long, Rieden and Sarah Sears clocked a 12:11.61.
In the 1,000-meter, Gruber finished 14th overall with a time of 3:01.42. Allison Cheeseman posted a 21st place finish in the 5,000-meter. The sophomore covered the distance in 18:21.52.
At the end of the first day, Davidson sits in ninth place with eight team points.
The Wildcats return to action for the final day of competition Sunday, Feb. 21.
