
Women Finish 3rd, Men Place 7th at A-10 Championships

GENEVA, Ohio – Elise Lankiewicz continued to impress as the junior led Davidson with an undefeated performance on the final day of the 2016 Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Championships to be named the Most Outstanding Performer for the second-straight year Saturday night.
Lankiewicz dominated the Championship as she won the 500 freestyle, 200 freestyle and 1650 freestyle, while helping the 800 freestyle relay, 400 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay squads to first-place finishes.
The Davidson women finished third overall with 466 points, while Richmond tallied 653.5 points to win its 14th A-10 Championship in 15 years. The Wildcat men totaled 371 points to finish seventh, while UMass took its 16th A-10 title with 671 points.
Overall, Davidson tallied eight gold medals, five Atlantic 10 records and 10 school records throughout the four-day event.
On the final day, Lankiewicz swam a time of 16:39.65 in the 1650 freestyle, which was almost 10 seconds faster than the competition (16:48.02) that capped off her impressive individual performance.
The Davidson women collected three of their 10 school records and one of their five A-10 records on the final day. Kate Moreton finished ninth in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:01.40, which broke a Davidson record that was set in 2001.
Katy Williams won the 200 breaststroke with a NCAA B standard time of 2:12.65 that set a school record to sweep the breaststroke events.
The 400 freestyle relay squad of Kassie Shannon, Maggie Farrell, Lankiewicz and Angie Healy capped off the night with a time of 3:19.65 to set Atlantic 10 and school records.
The Davidson men finished the night strong with Luke Burton recording the top finish. The senior touched the wall at the 1:43.76 mark in the 200 backstroke, which was good for a NCAA B standard time.
Clay Resweber, Riley League, Max Schimanski, Grant Smith and Cameron Bard all recorded top-10 finishes for the 'Cats. Resweber (15:42.52) and Schimanski (16:00.40) dominated the 1650 freestyle, placing fourth and seventh, respectively.
League recorded another fourth-place finish, coming in at the 1:48.55 mark of the 200 butterfly. Smith placed eighth in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:03.08, while Bard took a time of 45.81 to place 10th in the 100 freestyle.
