
‘Cats Off to Strong Start After Day 1 at A-10s

GENEVA, Ohio - The Davidson swimming and diving program is off to a strong start at the 2016 Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Championships as it completed day one Wednesday night.
The Davidson women finished the day with 70 points, just four points away from first-place Richmond, while the men sit seventh with 56 points. Massachusetts leads the men with an impressive 115 points.
The 800 freestyle relay team highlighted day one as the quartet of Maggie Farrell, Elizabeth Weldon, Elise Lankiewicz and Angie Healy crushed the event with a time of 7:16.79 that set an Atlantic 10 record.
The women also recorded a four-place showing in the 200 medley relay as Anabelle Durham, Katy Williams, Emma Tobey and Kassie Shannon put together a time of 1:42.81 to break a five-year old Davidson record.
The men took fifth in the 200 medley relay with the help of Luke Burton, Grant Smith, Cameron Bard and Colin MacKay who touched the wall at the 1:30.30 mark.
The Wildcats capped off the night with another fifth-place showing in the 800 freestyle relay as Clay Resweber, Cole Riggan, Riley League and Jake Perron swam a time of 6:39.19.
The championships resume tomorrow morning with the preliminary events beginning at 10:00 am followed by finals at 6:30 pm.
