DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Davidson women's basketball team tips off their 2016-17 season this Friday evening on the road when they head to East Lansing to play No. 22 Michigan State at 7 p.m. inside the Breslin Center.
This is the second time both teams have opened up against each other to start the season. The last time came back in the first meeting all-time during the 2003-04 season when the Wildcats played in the Spartan Classic, Nov. 22-23. It also marks the second time in program history Davidson opens up against a ranked opponent. The first time occured in 2005-06 at No. 6 North Carolina.
Friday's game for the Wildcats will be the first of two straight road games over the weekend. They will finish their trip to the state of Michigan with a 1 p.m. contest against Western Michigan Sunday.
OPENING TIP: Quick Hits ...
•Davidson is in its 38th season and has 415 wins in program history.
•The 'Cats are in their third year in the Atlantic 10 after a 21-year run in the SoCon.
•Davidson returns eight letterwinners and two of its five starters from last year's 11-19 team.

Last Game Out vs. Richmond, A-10 Tournament First Round ...
•Davidson saw its season come to an end last year in the first round of the Atlantic 10 Women's Basketball Tournament, falling 70-51 to Richmond.
•Dakota Dukes, in her final collegiate game, recorded a team-high 14 points to pace Davidson. Mackenzie Latt followed with 13 points.
•Senior Hannah Early tallied a game-high 10 rebounds, to go with six points and four assists in her final game.
• Richmond led by as many as 16, but twice Davidson got to within 12 points before falling.
Preseason Honors ...
•Latt was named to the preseason A-10 Third Team, the first Wildcat to garner a preseason honor in the their three years in the league.
•She had a strong sophomore campaign last season, averaging a personal-best 14.2 points a game and hauling in over six rebounds, pacing the team with 193 rebounds overall, while shooting 46 percent from the floor.
•Latt's 187 made field goals were the fifth-most in a Wildcat single season.
Record Watch ...
•In just two seasons, Latt has or will be ranked in the top-15 all-time in the record books. The junior has a chance at 1,000 points this year, needing 226 to reach the milestone.
•The forward already ranks in the top-15 in career scoring average (9th, 12.9), field goal percentage (13th, .462) and blocks (14th, 51), while ranking just outside the top-15 in rebounds and field goals made and blocks.
Random Notes ...
•Davidson went 6-7 last year vs. non-conference foes, the most wins since the 2007-08 season.
•Latt has scored in double figures in 45 of her 60 career games, including 25 times last year.
•Four of her five career 20-point outings came last year, scoring a career-best 25 points vs. Charlotte.
•The junior paced the team in scoring 11 times and 14 times in rebounding a year ago.
•Latt's 19 rebounds vs. George Mason, Feb. 3, were the most since a 20-board effort by Sophia Aleksandrivicus at Appalachian State during the 2011-12 season. The school record is 23 in a game.
•Sophomore Justine Lyon averaged just under six points a game as a freshman last year.
