DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson men's soccer team recently handed out their postseason hardware with Maxi Pragnell earning Most Valuable Player, Andrew Kenneson the Champion Award and Cort Coxhead receiving the Charlie Slagle Coaches' Award.
The Most Valuable Player and Champion Awards are voted on by the players, while the coaching staff determines the Coaches' Award.
Maxi Pragnell
Most Valuable Player
A member of the Atlantic 10 all-conference first team, Pragnell concluded the regular season as the league leader in points (20), points per game (1.18), goals (9) and goals per game (0.53). In addition, his three game-winning goals were second in the A-10.
Comments from Coach Spear
"Maxi had a breakthrough season in terms of offensive production and laid it on the line each and every outing. He had the season to put him in the running to play at the pro level."
Andrew Kenneson
Champion Award
The Champion Award highlights the player that most epitomizes team mantras like Brotherhood, All In, Toughness and Excellence.
Kenneson started all 17 games in goal for the Wildcats this season, while recording shutouts over UNC Asheville and George Mason. Along with serving as a team captain with Pragnell and fellow senior Christian Fechter, Kenneson finished second in the A-10 in saves with 76.
Comments from Coach Spear
"The guys – and coaches – recognize and appreciate Kenny's drive and commitment to get better every day. That's ambition – aiming high AND the willingness to strive and compete."
Cort Coxhead
Charlie Slagle Coaches' Award
The Charlie Slagle Coaches Award highlights a player that makes important, indelible contributions on and off the field.
In addition to starting six of the 16 games he appeared in, Coxhead recorded his lone goal of the season against nationally-ranked Wake Forest. Despite a 3-2 (ot) setback at eventual A-10 Tournament Champion Fordham, the native of Norcross, Ga., assisted on Jon Creel's goal that put the 'Cats up 1-0.
Comments from Coach Spear
"Cort's work ethic shows up in staying after practice for extra conditioning, his selfless attitude faithfully supports his teammates, and he's great with kids in youth soccer clinics."
