Volleyball Returns Home For A-10 Weekend

DAVIDSON, N.C. – After nearly a month on the road, Davidson volleyball (5-11, 1-2 A-10) returns to the friendly confines of Baker Sports Complex for a five-game home stretch, starting with a weekend of conference matchups. The Wildcats welcome George Washington Friday at 7:00 p.m. and face George Mason Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
The Wildcats lead the conference in blocking, averaging 2.79 per set (178.5 total). Senior Emily Franklin ranks in the Top 30 in the nation with her 1.34 blocks per set, and her 70 total put her second in the league. Teammate Sabrina Shepherd, the 2015 A-10 Rookie of the Year, ranks fifth in the category, with 62 total net rejections.

LAST TIME OUT
The 'Cats split last weekend, picking up their first league win over La Salle on Friday before dropping a five-setter to Duquesne Sunday. Franklin matched her season-high with 12 kills Sunday, while a trio of career-high performances paced Davidson to victory Friday. Juniors Kelly Friers and Sarah Fink each collected career-bests; Friers with 20 kills and Fink 15. Freshman libero Elise Edman registered a personal-best 25 digs.
SCOUTING THE COLONIALS
George Washington comes to Baker with a 6-11 record, but has yet to pick up a win in the A-10. The Colonials have suffered three straight conference sweeps, but rank second in the league in team hitting percentage at .223. The squad is led by senior middle blocker Chidima Osuchukwu's 181 kills, where she boasts a season hitting efficiency of .354. Osuchukwu also tops the team with 75 total blocks.
SCOUTING THE PATRIOTS
George Mason will face VCU Friday before heading to Davidson, but currently supports a 4-13 record, also winless in A-10 play. Senior right side hitter Tiffany Clarke carries a team-high 155 kills, closely followed by freshman Mikala Wells' 149. Junior middle blocker Sydney Fanoga serves as the Patriots' biggest threat at the net with 49 total blocks.
UP NEXT
The Wildcats remain at home, facing cross-county rival Charlotte in a special match to raise awareness for the Samaritan's Feet organization. Head coaches Chris Willis and Karen Weatherington will each lead their teams barefoot.
